Do you want to grow? Get out of your comfortzone!
What I have been watching this morning while waking up with my coffee
Hello!
First and foremost I would love to wish you all a happy Monday and a fresh new start for this week.
We can talk about deep stuff when it comes to exploring our consciousness and personal development. But it doesn’t always have to be.
Finding the joy in what you do. Letting your inner child run the show is also a must from time to time. That is what brings me today to share this topic with you guys.
For those who have been following me for a time, know about my passion for working with plants and the Eastern traditions in martial arts. And sometimes it can get a bit too serious. As I already shared, it is important to maintain a balance and the joy in life, adventure and exploration are also really important to elements to cultivate a playful spirit! Well that is climbing to me. These past years I haven’t really got too much space to give space to my passion for climbing.

Right before covid hit the fences I was freaking out on climbing. Starting from no experience within 9 months I was going nuts for 4 to 5 days a week in the indoor climbing gym in Belgium. In Ghent there is a really big one (I believe it is the biggest for Europe) that offers the possibility to boulder and climb lengths over 20 meters. Each session was around 3 to 4 hours and the community is amazing. Competition is very low in the sense of being better than others. This community is very supportive to help each other grow and overcome blockages when we don’t manage to solve problems on a route on the wall.
It taught me a lot about mindset and how the mind can be holding us back to make the next step in order to solve the puzzle that is in front of you. Overthinking would get you in a position of freezing on the wall and that’s when things get dangerous…
How much do you trust your feet? How much do you trust your hands to hold your body? These four parts of your body need to be trusted in order to maintain peace in your mind to move freely around. You need to know your body and techniques to have a realistic view on what you can handle and what not.

With consistency in practice and an amazing community that supports one another, the potential for growth is accommodated with a firm foundation to grow fast in your skills without getting too serious and maintaining a huge level of joy.
Like I mentioned previously, Within 9 months I gained a little over 13kg by eating well and training consistently. I witnessed the growth of my body like I have never seen before. Work was costing me way less effort and energy because my body was stronger. My mindset was stronger and the tiny voice in the back wasn’t dominating my choice and mental space anymore like it used to do. While you are training very hard it is also a powerful meditation. You can't afford to get stuck in your mind while climbing, because you will lose sight of the puzzle that you're trying to solve and your attention won’t be with the movement of your feet and the position of your hands. You have to be in the moment with each step that you take and combine it with your breath in order to channel your energy distribution exactly where it is needed.
Of course, this included the right aftercare with healthy and good nutrition through the food you eat. It’s a whole package and not only climbing like a monkey!
But that’s how quick it can be when one is really determined to grow and change things for oneself.. Where there is a will, there is always a way. Even when it isn’t clear or in sight YET!

Before and after the climbing session I used to watch a lot of people climbing to explore new techniques to be efficient with my energy and to learn how I could endure a longer time on the wall. Pushing my limits each day until I couldn’t keep my body attached to the wall anymore. That was the moment to rest and call it a day.
So today I want to share a video with you that was fun to see and reminded me how climbers are in community and like to explore new territory. How the mind is limited in assistance and the importance of trusting how your body feels and knowing your capacity. Magnus Mitbo is one of those people that I love to observe and learn from. In this video he joins Leo Urban, who loves to channel his inner animal by climbing trees and training his body in natural ways without a specific training program. Even knowing that Magnus' climbing skills are epic, this video is showing again how new things and our mind can challenge us to get out of our comfort zone.
Enjoy this video of two men channeling their inner animal and climbing trees over 15 meters tall!
Take it as a motivation to channel yours today!
